Session 2 14:15 - 16:15
Zero Waste: aspiration or reality?
In one form or another, the concept of 'zero waste' now underpins waste strategies throughout the UK. But what does this concept really mean? Is it achievable or aspirational? Is it zero waste to landfill or does it involve eliminating waste much higher up the supply chain? This session will give Ministers and policy makers a platform to explain and debate the definition and scope of 'zero waste'.
This second session of the conference is dedicated to exploring the developing resources and wastes strategies from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. These strategies recognise the importance of sustainable resources management and we would like to use this high profile conference to explore what we should be striving for and how changes in the economy and environmental expectations will affect these strategies in the future.
