Claire is a specialist waste planning and environment lawyer with an MA in Environmental Law and is a member of the Law Society's Planning Law Accreditation Scheme. She advises on a wide range of both contentious and non-contentious waste planning and environmental matters.
She has particular expertise in waste management, energy and renewables and regularly advises clients on the implications of emerging legislation in these areas. She also assists clients in securing relevant planning and environmental consents for waste and energy infrastructure and deals with appeals and enforcement action. Other non-contentious work includes providing advice on the planning and environmental aspects of PFI/PPP waste projects. Claire has also advised on many corporate, property and finance transactions including drafting complex environmental deeds, securing bespoke environmental insurance and overseeing due diligence, environmental audits and site investigations. On the contentious side, Claire is an experienced advocate and regularly deals with contentious matters in the Magistrates' Court involving the Environment Agency, Health and Safety Executive and other regulatory bodies. Claire also has significant experience of judicial review and other High Court action including acting for WRG in the Court of Appeal case to establish the correct interpretation of the Landfill Directive and the Groundwater Regulations 1998 as they apply to existing landfill sites (the piggy backing case).
