Karolina Fras
Acting Deputy Head of Unit - Sustainable Production and Consumption, DG Environment, European Commission
Karolina Fras is an Acting Deputy Head of Unit "Sustainable Production and Consumption" in the European Commission's Directorate General (DG) "Environment". She has been working on waste policies for over five years now. During her career in DG Environment, she has been responsible for several environmental dossiers, including the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive, the Packaging Directive, PVC and bio-waste dossiers. On behalf of the Commission, Karolina was negotiating with the European Parliament and the Council the revision of the Waste Framework Directive - the cornerstone piece of European legislation on waste. As of 2009, she has taken over the managerial position in the Unit, supervising the implementation of waste legislation and coordinating the Unit's work. Among others, she is currently supervising the recast of the WEEE and RoHS Directives.
Karolina is a frequent speaker at meetings and conferences devoted to various aspects of waste management. She gave numerous speeches and presentations concerning waste management policies and legislation in the European Union, coordinated the publication of several Commission decisions and reports on waste.
