Clare Saunders

Head of Waste & Resources Management, Hampshire County Council

Clare Saunders is the Head of Waste and Resources Management for Hampshire County Council. She leads a multidisciplinary team that has responsibility for the management, development and operation of Hampshire's World Class Waste and Resources infrastructure. Through close partnership working with Hampshire's waste disposal contractor Veolia Environmental Services and the County's other partners Clare and her team have put Hampshire in the forefront of waste management in the UK. She has been instrumental in her 9 years with Hampshire in supporting many of the key developments in Project Integra and has contributed to the current strategic planning of a new materials resource's strategy which includes the 14 local authorities that constitute the most mature and robust of local government partnerships of the last 15 years.

Clare has over 14yrs experience in the industry previously holding roles for both Test Valley Borough Council and Winchester City Council. This has given her a substantial understanding and insight into the pressures facing officers and politicians with relation to the implementation of new systems and processes to turn waste into resource.

Clare has a B.Sc and a Post Grad qualification in Public Sector Management and is a graduate of the Hampshire Future Leaders programme.
