Daniel Instone
Head of Waste Strategy, Defra
Daniel Instone has been head of Defra's waste programme since spring 2008, having been head of Defra's waste strategy division since August 2005. He led the work on reviewing the Government's waste strategy, leading to a new strategy being published in 2007.
For some years previously he led a number of policy areas in Defra and other departments concerned with the environment. These have included policy on the water environment, transport policy including addressing the impacts of transport on the environment. He also led a number of strategic policy reviews in the Prime Minister's strategy unit in the Cabinet Office,in particular on the interaction between international trade and social, health and environmental policies, and on the role of central government in the regions.
