Daniel Wong

Executive Director, Head of Utilities, Macquarie Capital (Europe) Limited

Daniel joined Macquarie Bank from Bankers Trust in 1999.

Daniel has extensive investment banking experience across various industry sectors - including infrastructure (in particular utilities, renewables and waste), healthcare and steel manufacturing. He has been involved in a number of transactions in the UK, across Europe and also in Australia.

Daniel is the head of Macquarie's European Energy and Utilities Group. Daniel has been involved in a number of Macquarie's recent investments in the energy and utilities sector across Europe including:

• advising Greensands consortium (led by JP Morgan and Challenger Infrastructure Fund) in its £4.2 billion acquisition of Southern Water;
  
  
• advising Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund II on its acquisition of GWE Energy Power Resources Limited - a German CHP and energy from waste business;
  
  
• advising Kemble Water Limited (a Macquarie-led consortium of investors) in its £8.0 billion acquisition of Thames Water plc from RWE;
• advising MGN Networks (a Macquarie-led consortium of investors) in its £1.2 billion acquisition of Wales and the West Gas Distribution Network from National Grid;
  
  
• advising Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund on its £210 million acquisition (and subsequent refinancing) of Energy Power Resources Limited - a 122 MW portfolio of UK biomass and wind generation plants;
  
  
• advising NMRE (a joint venture between Novera and Macquarie) on its £120 million acquisition of United Utilities Green Energy and Novera's portfolio of UK landfill gas, wind and hydro generation plants and its bolt-on acquisition of Arbutus Limited's UK landfill gas generation plants;
  
  
• advising Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund on its £130 million acquisition of CLP Envirogas, a portfolio of UK landfill gas generation plants;
  
  
• advising Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund on its €55 million acquisition of wind farms in Sweden and France;
  
  
• advising Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund and Global Infrastructure Fund on their €150 million acquisition of wind farms in France.
  
  

Daniel is currently leading assignments for Macquarie's funds and third party clients across European regulated assets, European renewable energy and UK and Continental European waste. Daniel also has experience acting for clients in public market takeovers, private treaty acquisitions and raising acquisition finance.
