John Wante

Policy Officer, OVAM (Flemmish Public Waste Agency)

John Wante is a chemical engineer. After having worked for six years in the petrochemical industries as a project engineer, he started as a policy officer on waste and energy in 2001.

In 2003 he joined the Flemish Public Waste Agency OVAM. There he is responsible for the participation of the Flemish Region in European decision making procedures on new or revised waste directives or regulations. He has been involved in the discussions on the European Waste Strategy, the Resources Strategy and the revision of the Waste Framework Directive since 2005.

Now he is responsible for the implementation of the WFD in Flemish waste policy. He is also working on extending the Flemish waste policy towards a materials policy that covers the complete life cycle of products. Since 2005, he is also active in the OECD program on sustainable materials management.
