Lee Marshall

Senior Manager - Policy and Waste, Powys County Council, LARAC Executive

Lee has spent 15 years in waste management after graduating with an Environmental Technology degree from Sunderland. He started his career at Woking Borough Council and progressed to Recycling and Environment Officer. Whilst at Woking he implemented their first kerbside scheme and log jammed the town centre with the UK's third ever home compost bin sale.

In 1999 he dipped his toe in the private sector as a Contract Manager dealing with all of the waste generated by British Airways at Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Feeling the pull of local government Lee sent himself to Coventry in October 2001 as Waste Services Manager, working on DFRA bids and Best Value Reviews. From there he moved to Stratford District Council as Head of Street Scene managing a variety of public facing services including CCTV and Car Parking, alongside the waste and street cleaning functions.

In January 2006 he moved across the border to Wales with Powys County Council, swapping CCTV for Livestock Markets. He is now Senior Manager Policy and Waste and involved in local area working and implementing a complete new waste management collection and treatment system.

On top of the day job he has been chair of the South East Regional Recycling Forum and a member of the Buy Recycled Campaign national steering group back in the 1990's. This led to more involvement with LARAC where he has held the roles of Technical Officer, Vice Chair, and Communications Co-ordinator before leading the organisation as Chair for four years until January 2009.
