Mark has been involved in private financing of infrastructure development since the early 1990s. Mark joined Macquarie in 2005 as head of the bank's Infrastructure Development group in Europe. Prior to that he established and led ABN AMRO's Infrastructure Capital business in Europe after five years in their Australian infrastructure group.

He started his career as a lawyer and was a partner specialising in infrastructure and structured finance at a major Australian law firm before moving to investment banking in 1997.
