Stephen Wells

Group Strategy & Business Development Director, Costain Group Plc

Stephen Wells joined Costain in his current role of Group Strategy & Business Development Director (Executive Board position) in July 2003.

In 1982 Stephen attained BSc Honours in Civil Engineering & Construction at the University of Surrey. He began his career within the construction industry with Wimpey in September 1982, promoted to Project Manager in October 1990 and Operations Manager, Water, in July 1992. Following the transfer of Wimpey Construction to Tarmac Construction International, Stephen took up the role of Water Sector Manager and Strategic Account Manager, Tarmac Water Engineering, in January 1995. Moving on to become Director of Sales and Business Development, Biwater International, in June 1999 until July 2003 when he joined Costain.

In addition to his role within the Costain Executive Board, Stephen is a member of the UK Trade & Investment Environmental Sector Advisory Group, the British Water International Board and joined the Board of the UKTI Water Sector Advisory Group in Autumn 2007. He is a Liveryman of both the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators and Constructors, whilst being a Freeman of the City of London.
